The largest religious complex ever built, Karnak is a vast open-air museum of towering columns, sacred lakes, and monumental obelisks.

The Karnak Temple Complex in Luxor is the largest religious structure ever built in ancient Egypt. Developed over nearly 2,000 years, it was primarily dedicated to Amun-Ra, the king of the gods. Successive pharaohs expanded the site, leaving behind monumental pylons, chapels, obelisks, and sanctuaries.

The most breathtaking feature is the Great Hypostyle Hall, a forest of 134 massive sandstone columns rising up to 21 metres high. Intricate carvings and hieroglyphics cover the surfaces, illustrating military victories and religious rituals.

Karnak is not a single temple but a vast complex that reflects the political and spiritual power of ancient Thebes, making it one of the most impressive historical sites along the Nile.
