Stand before the last remaining Wonder of the Ancient World — the Great Pyramids of Giza, built over 4,500 years ago as monumental tombs for Egypt’s powerful pharaohs
The Pyramids of Giza are Egypt's most iconic landmark and the only surviving Wonder of the Ancient World, making them a must-see highlight of any luxury Egypt holiday. Built over 4,500 years ago during the Fourth Dynasty, the Great Pyramid of Khufu once stood at 146 metres and remained the tallest man-made structure on Earth for nearly 4,000 years. The site also includes the pyramids of Khafre and Menkaure, forming the legendary Giza Necropolis — a centrepiece of many Cairo and Nile cruise packages.
Guarding the plateau is the enigmatic Great Sphinx, carved from a single limestone outcrop and believed to represent Pharaoh Khafre. Visitors on a guided Pyramids tour can explore the surrounding mortuary temples, panoramic desert viewpoints, and, in some cases, the interior chambers of the pyramids — often paired with a visit to the nearby Grand Egyptian Museum.
Located just outside Cairo, the Pyramids of Giza combine ancient grandeur with dramatic desert landscapes, making them the most visited attraction in Egypt for international travellers, including the UK market. Many holidaymakers experience the Pyramids as part of a luxury Nile cruise, combining Cairo's wonders with a sailing between Luxor and Aswan, or a relaxing all-inclusive beach stay in Hurghada or Sharm el Sheikh.
