Explore the royal burial ground of New Kingdom pharaohs, including Tutankhamun, where vividly painted tombs reveal ancient beliefs about the afterlife.

Hidden within the arid hills of Luxor’s West Bank, the Valley of the Kings served as the royal burial ground for Egypt’s New Kingdom pharaohs between the 16th and 11th centuries BCE. More than 60 tombs have been discovered here, including the world-famous tomb of Tutankhamun.

Unlike pyramids, these tombs were carved deep into the rock to protect royal treasures. Their walls are richly decorated with colourful scenes from ancient funerary texts, depicting the journey to the afterlife. Each tomb varies in design, scale, and artistic detail.

Today, visitors can enter a selection of tombs on rotation, offering an extraordinary glimpse into royal life, religious beliefs, and ancient Egyptian craftsmanship.
