Hidden within the arid hills of Luxor's West Bank, the Valley of the Kings is one of Egypt's most extraordinary historical sites and a highlight of any Luxor sightseeing tour or Nile cruise excursion. This legendary royal burial ground served Egypt's New Kingdom pharaohs between the 16th and 11th centuries BCE, and more than 60 ancient Egyptian tombs have been discovered here, including the world-famous tomb of Tutankhamun (KV62).

Unlike the pyramids, these royal tombs were carved deep into the rock to protect their treasures. Their walls are richly decorated with colourful scenes from ancient funerary texts, depicting the pharaoh's journey to the afterlife, with each tomb varying in design, scale and artistic detail — the dazzling artwork of the Ramses VI tomb being a particular highlight.

Today, visitors on a guided Valley of the Kings tour can enter a selection of tombs on rotation, offering an extraordinary glimpse into royal life, religious beliefs and ancient Egyptian craftsmanship.
