Travel Guide
Ibiza Town (Eivissa in Catalan) is the capital of Ibiza and the political, historic and cultural heart of the island. It sits on the south-east coast, 7km north-east of Ibiza Airport (IBZ) and 16km east of San Antonio. The town has been continuously inhabited since 654 BC, when Phoenician traders founded the original settlement of Ibossim on what is today the Sa Caleta archaeological site. The medieval walled old town of Dalt Vila has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999, with 16th-century Renaissance fortifications designed by Italian military engineer Giovanni Battista Calvi from 1554. Modern Ibiza Town spreads down from the Dalt Vila walls to the harbour and across to the polished Marina Botafoch yacht quarter, with Pacha Ibiza (the island's oldest superclub, since 1973) on its doorstep. UK travellers come for direct flights into Ibiza, the UNESCO old town, the highest concentration of fine-dining restaurants on the island and the cleanest base for combining culture with a club night or two.
✨ Why Visit Ibiza Town
- Dalt Vila, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999 — the 16th-century walled medieval old town with Renaissance fortifications, the cathedral and the Castle of Almudaina at the summit.
- Pacha Ibiza on the doorstep — the island's longest-running superclub (opened 1973) sits a 5-minute taxi from the old town.
- Marina Botafoch — Ibiza's polished super-yacht harbour, with Cipriani, Lío cabaret-and-club, and the bulk of the island's fine-dining inventory.
- The fastest mainland-Spain ferry to Formentera — Trasmapi and Baleària run 30-minute crossings every half hour from Ibiza Town's port in summer.
- The fine-dining capital of the island — Ibiza Town and Marina Botafoch hold around 60% of Ibiza's Michelin-noted and high-end restaurant inventory.
- Direct UK flights from over 25 airports — easyJet, Jet2, TUI, Ryanair and British Airways from Gatwick, Stansted, Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol, Edinburgh and Glasgow, 2hr 30min from London.
🌴 What Makes Ibiza Town Special
Unlike San Antonio, where the resort identity is built around the West End strip and Café del Mar sunsets, Ibiza Town runs on culture and polish — Dalt Vila's UNESCO walls, the Marina Botafoch fine-dining scene and the cherry-logo Pacha entrance shape the experience. Unlike Playa d'en Bossa's beach-club energy, Ibiza Town has no major club inside its centre — Pacha sits a 5-minute taxi away, leaving the old town quieter than the headline resort strips. And unlike anywhere else on Ibiza, the town pairs a UNESCO old town with super-yacht marinas, ferry departures to Formentera and the cleanest restaurant scene on the island. The combination of Dalt Vila, the Marina Botafoch dinners, Pacha 5 minutes away and Formentera reachable in 30 minutes makes Ibiza Town the most rounded base on the island for a first visit.

- Sa Penya — The historic fisherman's quarter directly below Dalt Vila's walls, with whitewashed houses and the harbour-front cafés.
- La Marina — The harbour-front quarter at the foot of Dalt Vila, with the boat-trip operators, Trasmapi and Baleària ferry terminals and the historic Calle de la Virgen — Ibiza Town's traditional gay-village.
- Marina Botafoch — The polished super-yacht marina across the harbour from Dalt Vila, with Cipriani, Lío cabaret-and-club, and the fine-dining strip.
- Talamanca (north of the harbour) — A small family-resort beach 2km north, with Nobu Hotel Ibiza Bay and a calm 800m sandy bay.
- Figueretes (south of the harbour) — A smaller seafront promenade with quieter family hotels and direct walking access to the old port.

🏨 All-Inclusive Holidays
Ibiza Town's AI market is smaller and more boutique than San Antonio or Playa d'en Bossa — the resort leans toward design hotels, half-board boutiques and city-break stays rather than mass-market AI. Hotel Pacha Ibiza Eivissa (the Pacha-branded boutique hotel), Hotel ME Ibiza (Cap Martinet, design-led) and OD Ocean Drive (Marina Botafoch) lead the upper-tier rankings. Shoulder-season weeks with UK flights typically open from £439pp in May or October, climbing to £1,199pp at August half-term — comfortably above San Antonio for the same nights.
👨👩👧👦 Family Holidays
Ibiza Town is a mixed picture for families. The town centre and the Pacha-Marina Botafoch axis are unsuitable for under-12s, but Talamanca (2km north) and Figueretes (south) deliver calmer family bases with sandy beaches. Nobu Hotel Ibiza Bay (Talamanca, adults-only design hotel) is the headline boutique family-couples address; for pure family-resort experiences, base at Santa Eulalia (15 minutes east) instead. Pair Ibiza Town with day trips to Aguamar Water Park (Playa d'en Bossa, 15 minutes south) and ferry trips to Formentera.
💎 Luxury Holidays
Ibiza Town holds the densest luxury inventory on the island. Hotel ME Ibiza (Cap Martinet, by the Meliá design group), Nobu Hotel Ibiza Bay (Talamanca, adults-only), Aguas de Ibiza Lifestyle & Spa (Santa Eulalia, 15 minutes east) and Six Senses Ibiza (Cala Xarraca, 30 minutes north) are the headline five-stars. Mikasa Ibiza Boutique Hotel and Mirador de Dalt Vila inside the old town walls add the heritage-luxury alternatives. The yacht-charter scene from Marina Botafoch delivers the headline luxury experience for Ibiza Town guests.
⏰ Last-Minute Deals
Late discounts are uncommon during the May-to-October club season, when the residency calendar drives full hotel inventory. The strongest savings appear in mid-May to early June and from late September into early October — discounts of 15–20% inside three weeks of departure are realistic on OD Ocean Drive, Hotel ME Ibiza and Pacha Ibiza Eivissa properties. The town's expat community keeps a small core of restaurants and a few boutique hotels open year-round, so winter trips are possible — though Pacha and most clubs close from late October to late April.

📅 Best Time to Visit Ibiza Town
Ibiza Town runs three distinct seasons. Mid-July to mid-September is the peak club-and-yacht window, with daytime highs of 28–32°C, sea temperatures of 23–26°C, the Pacha residency calendar at full capacity and Marina Botafoch's fine-dining scene at full price. Late May, early June and September are the value-strong shoulder months at 23–28°C with cheaper flights and hotels and most clubs still open. April and late October still deliver 19–23°C, but most clubs and many hotels are closed. From November to April, only Dalt Vila's small core of restaurants and a handful of boutique hotels stay open — the wider resort-side town is quiet.

🚗 Getting Around
A hire car is useful for exploring the wider island but unnecessary if you're staying within Ibiza Town and the southern coast. Cicar, OK Mobility and Record Go rent from around €40 a day at Ibiza Airport (IBZ), rising to €100+ in peak August. Public buses are frequent: line L10 connects IBZ to Ibiza Town in 15 minutes for €4; line L13 connects Ibiza Town to Santa Eulalia in 25 minutes for €2. A taxi from IBZ takes 10 minutes (€15); taxis after 11pm carry a €5 night surcharge. The Discobus runs an all-night service connecting Ibiza Town with Pacha, Amnesia, Hï Ibiza, Ushuaïa and San Antonio from 12am to 6am for €4 single — the safest way to club-hop. Trasmapi and Baleària run the Ibiza Town–Formentera ferry every 30 minutes in summer (€25 single, 30 minutes).
💡 Travel Tips
- The Balearics are one hour ahead of the UK year-round (Central European Time).
- IVA at 21% applies — alcohol and electronics aren't notably cheaper than the UK.
- Ibiza charges a Sustainable Tourism Tax (€1–4pp per night, paid at hotel check-in) from May to October.
- Plug type is European C/F at 230V — bring a UK adapter.
- Tap water is technically safe but heavily mineralised; locals drink bottled almost exclusively.
- The Pacha entry €60–80 (with one drink) is the standard Ibiza Town club rate — buy through Ibiza Spotlight, not street touts.
- Marina Botafoch dinners typically don't start until 9pm and run to midnight — Cipriani and Lío book out 2 weeks ahead in summer.
- The Discobus is the cheapest and safest way home from clubs — €4 single, runs until 6am.
- Dalt Vila's seven city gates close to traffic from 9pm to 7am in summer — walk in via Portal de Ses Taules, the main entrance.
- Boat trips to Formentera book out 24–48 hours ahead in August — reserve through the marina kiosks or Aquabus.
- The old town cobbled streets are uneven — wear flat shoes rather than heels for evening dinners and walks up to the cathedral.
- Beach-club bali beds at Talamanca and Cap Martinet sell out 24 hours ahead in summer — reserve through the venue website.
