Travel Guide
Cala Millor is a holiday resort on the east coast of Mallorca, in the municipality of Son Servera, 65km north-east of Palma and 70km from Palma Airport (PMI). The resort grew from a small fishing settlement in the 1960s and now wraps the southern half of a long sandy bay, with the smaller resort of Cala Bona continuing 1km north and the village of Sa Coma 3km south. Cala Millor's headline asset is its 1.8km gradually-shelving Blue Flag beach — the longest continuous sandy stretch on the east coast — backed by a flat 4km traffic-free seafront promenade that runs all the way through to Cala Bona. Unlike the south-west party resorts, Cala Millor was built around families and couples; nightlife is concentrated on the short central strip, kitchens close by 11pm, and the wider east coast offers limestone caves, medieval fortresses, sleepy fishing villages and the Sa Coma safari park.
✨ Why Visit Cala Millor
- A 1.8km Blue Flag bay — the longest continuous sandy beach on Mallorca's east coast, with gradually-shelving water that suits weak swimmers and toddlers.
- A 4km flat seafront promenade — fully buggy- and wheelchair-friendly, connecting Cala Millor to Cala Bona without crossing a road.
- Coves del Drac and Coves dels Hams — two of Mallorca's most spectacular limestone cave systems, both within 15km of the resort.
- Family-resort scale without nightlife dominance — none of the Magaluf-style party reputation, but plenty of restaurants, mini-golf, ice-cream parlours and waterparks.
- A 70-minute airport transfer — longer than the south-west resorts, but the Ma-15 motorway makes it straightforward.
- Direct UK flights from over 20 airports — easyJet, Jet2, TUI, Ryanair and British Airways from Gatwick, Stansted, Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol and Edinburgh, 2hr 15min from London.
🌴 What Makes Cala Millor Special
Unlike Magaluf or Santa Ponsa on the south-west coast, Cala Millor was developed almost entirely as a mid-market family destination — the resort has no superclubs, no 18–30s strip, and the average hotel guest is a family of four or a couple in their 50s. Unlike Alcúdia in the north, Cala Millor's bay is more sheltered and shallower, with no surf and consistently calm water from May through September. The east coast's headline attractions — the Coves del Drac caves, the Coves dels Hams, the medieval Castell de Capdepera and the Sa Coma safari park — are all within 30 minutes by car or bus, giving the resort a depth of day-trip options the south-west doesn't match. Combined with a 1.8km Blue Flag beach and 25+ family-aimed all-inclusive hotels, this makes Cala Millor the most rounded family resort on the east coast.
📍 Key Areas to Explore
- Playa de Cala Millor (central beach) — The 1.8km Blue Flag bay with sunbed hire, lifeguards and watersports kiosks running its full length.
- Cala Bona (1km north) — A smaller fishing-port-turned-resort with three small coves, a working marina and quieter family hotels.
- Sa Coma (3km south) — A quieter family resort with its own Blue Flag beach and the Sa Coma Safari Park.
- Punta de N'Amer — A 200-hectare protected coastal headland with a 17th-century watchtower, walking trails and unspoilt cliffs between Cala Millor and Sa Coma.
- Son Servera town (5km inland) — The municipal capital, with a Saturday morning market, traditional Mallorcan tapas and the Sant Joan Baptista church.
- Capdepera (12km north) — A medieval hilltop town with the Castell de Capdepera fortress and an artisan basket-weaving heritage.
- Porto Cristo (15km south) — A pretty fishing port with the Coves del Drac caves and a small natural-harbour beach.

🏨 All-Inclusive Holidays
Cala Millor runs a deep family AI market, with Hipotels Mediterráneo, Hipotels Said, Iberostar Cala Millor and Allsun Hotel Borneo leading the UK family rankings. Hipotels Hipocampo Palace and Iberostar Selection Albufera Playa handle the upper-tier AI segment with adults-only options at Hipotels Cala Millor Palace. Shoulder-season weeks with UK flights typically open from £319pp in May or October, climbing to £899pp at August half-term.
👨👩👧👦 Family Holidays
This is one of the east coast's strongest family resorts. The 1.8km gradually-shelving Blue Flag bay has lifeguards in summer, the 4km flat promenade is buggy-friendly end-to-end, and the resort sits within 30 minutes of three top family attractions — Sa Coma Safari Park, the Coves del Drac caves and Aqualand Mallorca's third site at Western Park (60 minutes south). Hipotels Mediterráneo and Allsun Hotel Borneo run the strongest family hotel inventories with kids' clubs and themed pools.
💎 Luxury Holidays
Genuine five-star inventory clusters at Pula Golf Resort and the boutique Park Hyatt Mallorca, set 4km inland in the Canyamel valley with golf, spa and Michelin-starred Tomeu dining. Sa Torre de Santa Eugenia (35km west, Relais & Châteaux) offers the rural-finca alternative. Within Cala Millor itself, Hipotels Cala Millor Palace (adults-only, beachfront) is the leading luxury option, with Hipotels Hipocampo Palace adding the family five-star choice.
⏰ Last-Minute Deals
Cala Millor carries solid late-availability stock outside the August peak. The strongest discounts surface in mid-May to early June and from mid-September into late October — discounts of 25–30% inside three weeks of departure are realistic on Hipotels, Iberostar and Allsun properties. Most hotels close from November to early April; the resort effectively shuts down in winter except for a small core of restaurants in Son Servera town.

📅 Best Time to Visit Cala Millor
Cala Millor runs as a summer-season family resort, with most hotels open from late April to early November. Peak season is late June to early September, with daytime highs of 28–32°C, sea temperatures of 23–26°C, and the bay at its busiest. May, June and September are the value-strong shoulder months at 23–27°C, with cheaper hotel rates and the Coves del Drac caves and Castell de Capdepera at their best for visiting. April and October still deliver 19–23°C — the beach works for sunbathing but the sea drops below comfortable swimming temperatures (17–19°C). The resort largely closes from November through March.

🚗 Getting Around
The 70km transfer from Palma Airport (PMI) is among Mallorca's longest — taxis cost around €100 and take 65 minutes via the Ma-15 motorway. The TIB A51 Aerotib bus runs direct from PMI to Cala Millor for €15 in 90 minutes. Within the resort, the seafront promenade is fully walkable end to end and connects through to Cala Bona (3km return walk). For day trips to the Coves del Drac, the Castell de Capdepera or inland villages, hire a car from Cicar from around €25 a day. TIB bus 411 connects Cala Millor to Manacor and Palma in 80 minutes for €10.
💡 Travel Tips
- The Balearics are one hour ahead of the UK year-round (Central European Time).
- IVA at 21% applies — alcohol and electronics aren't notably cheaper than the UK.
- Mallorca's Sustainable Tourism Tax adds €1–4pp per night to hotel bills (May to October).
- Plug type is European C/F at 230V — bring a UK adapter.
- Tap water is technically safe but heavily mineralised; locals drink bottled.
- The Coves del Drac fills early — arrive before 10.30am or after 3.30pm to avoid the cruise-coach groups.
- The Saturday Son Servera market and Sunday Sineu market both run 8am to 1pm — go before 11am for the best produce.
- The 4km promenade walk to Cala Bona suits an early morning or sunset rather than midday in July and August.
- A Cala Millor City Sightseeing tourist train runs from the resort to Cala Bona, Punta de N'Amer and Sa Coma in summer for €6 — useful with younger children.
- Most Cala Millor restaurants close November to March — head to Son Servera town for year-round dining.
